A ST. MARY DEVELOPMENT SURVEY REPORT
St. Mary was the recipient of a Del Mar Encore Fellow Initiative Grant in 2018. The purpose of the grant was to explore how tele-health and emerging technologies can be used to reduce the disparity of access to services and healthcare for seniors living at or below the poverty line.
This report provides the results of a survey conducted in partnership with Linkage Connect to assess the current ownership and usage of technology among the residents living in St. Mary's senior living communities. Throughout the report, information is included from the literature identifying some of the national trends and issues related to technology and older adults.
Resident Services Funding & Delivery Models Among Affordable Housing Nonprofits

The purpose of this research was to address three primary questions: (1) What are the resident services offered by affordable housing nonprofits, (2) how are these resident services funded, and (3) how are these resident services delivered? This research offers organizational- and policy-level insights into the implementation and sustainability of delivering resident services.

Housing Needs Assessment: City of Dayton and Montgomery County, Ohio
A COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH INITIATIVE
The Miami Valley Non-profit Housing Collaborative and Columbus-based Bowen National Research partnered to release a comprehensive assessment of housing needs in Dayton and Montgomery County. The Collaborative hopes the Assessment helps inform federal, state and local spending on housing as well as housing policy.
The Housing Needs Assessment includes a demographic analysis, economic trend analysis, housing supply analysis, and housing market condition analysis. The housing analysis includes multifamily rental housing, non-conventional rentals, and for-sale housing, as well as a review of the development pipeline. Bowen contacted local stakeholders for input, including housing authority representatives, government officials, economic development professionals realtor associations, neighborhood organizations, rental property managers, real estate agents, social service providers and local housing developers.
Teaching Older Adults in Affordable Apartment Communities to Use Amazon Echo Devices
A ST. MARY DEVELOPMENT CASE STUDY
St. Mary partnered with personal electronics support company Trillnovo to install free WiFi in several of our apartment communities, provide our senior residents with free Amazon Echo devices, and train them to use their new devices.
A goal of this research was to eliminate the barriers residents said prevented them from adopting new technology, and to advance how technology can support older adults in affordable apartment communities. This white paper documents our training process and documentation, as well as findings from the project.
Observations about dementia and other cognitive issues in St. Mary Development’s affordable apartment communities

Tim Bete, former President of St. Mary Development Corporation, met with the organization’s Service Coordinator Team to get input about dementia and other cognitive issues experienced by St. Mary residents who live in affordable housing communities. This report includes nine key observations.
Community Health Workers: A Promising Program Model to Advance Health & Well-Being in Affordable Housing and Community Development

In 2021 NeighborWorks America, in collaboration with healthcare consulting firm Health Management Associates (HMA), launched the Community Health Worker Learning Lab (CHWLL) to support Network organizations piloting or expanding CHW programs. NeighborWorks America provided grant funding, training, coaching, and technical assistance for 12 Network organizations, including St. Mary Development, to explore, implement, launch, or expand CHW models. Using lessons learned from the CHWLL, the Healthy Homes & Communities team and HMA simultaneously developed a CHW toolkit in collaboration with the grantee cohort to support the Network, and the community development and housing field at large, implement a sustainable CHW program model.
Empowering Older Adults Through Wellness Initiatives

Montgomery County Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health ServicesSt. Mary Development Corporation, in partnership with Montgomery County ADAMHS and other organizations, has contributed to the Older Adult Behavioral Health & Wellness Initiative. This statewide effort focuses on empowering seniors to make healthy lifestyle choices, address medication and alcohol use, and promote overall wellness. By implementing evidence-based programs like WISE, this initiative is reducing risks and increasing protective factors for Ohio's aging population.
