When we started St. Mary Development
Corporation (SMDC) in 1993, we didn’t
dream we’d end up building more than
2,000 apartments and houses for the
poor. But God was at work and, with

Today St. Mary Development
Corporation is the largest non-profit
provider of high-quality, affordable
housing to poor seniors and families
in Southwest Ohio.
Our success might give the impression that our main focus is bricks and mortar. But, unlike most other housing providers, we also provide residents with a community environment that gives them quality of life as well as a place to live. What makes SMDC unique is the level of service and programs provided to residents of our facilities. Residents of our senior communities enjoy meals and activities together. They find new friends and companionship that they wouldn’t have living alone. Living in a caring, loving environment is a wonderful way for people to spend the last years of their lives—especially people who have often had difficult lives.
Our lease-to-own housing program provides working families with a chance to live in quality housing, and to learn the skills they need to manage their money and a home. If you could see the face of a child who is moving into a new home with his or her family, it would change you forever. Our residents tell us their kids are happier and do better in school because of their new surroundings.
