“It’s clean, affordable, the nicest in Xenia!”
Wright Place’s caring management and beautiful grounds make it a great place to live — and heal.

Five years ago, Sue Watts could have never imagined where she lives today. The 74-year-old resident of Wright Place, one of St. Mary Development Corporation’s low-income senior apartments, suffered the death of her husband in 2003. A year later — before having much time to grieve — Sue was diagnosed with breast cancer along with depression.

“I decided I didn’t want to live alone after 45 years of marriage,” says Sue, who owned a home in Xenia. So after hearing a presentation about Wright Place, Sue decided to visit the new building. In September 2004, she was the third resident to move in.

Sue was going through chemotherapy during the first few months in her new apartment.

“Living here gave me something to look forward to,” says Sue, who is now in remission. She says living at Wright Place made her health struggle less painful. She also likes the convenience.

“When I owned a home, I had to spend a lot of money on the yard upkeep and water repairs,” she says, “Now if something goes wrong, I just make a work order! It’s really carefree.”

Without a house to take care of, Sue devotes her time to helping others in need. At Clothes that Work, a non-profit organization in Xenia, she helps provide clothing suitable for interviews and teaches clients how to dress professionally.

“Wright Place is beautiful! It’s clean, affordable, the nicest in Xenia,” says Sue. “Everyone who lives here loves it.”
